Step by step

Not just the answer. The way there.

When a concept isn’t fully understood, every new topic feels harder. So we go back, explain it differently, and practise the exact skill until it clicks, then help students apply it on their own.

  1. 1Identify the exact learning gap
  2. 2Re-teach what wasn’t understood
  3. 3Practise the specific skill
  4. 4Apply it independently

What happens after

A clear next step, with no obligation.

After the Trial Class, we bring together your child’s Starting Point Assessment and their experience in the live class. This helps us provide a grade-level program recommendation and gives you an opportunity to decide whether continuing with Mathwhiz feels like the right next step.

Our approach

When Math gets hard, figuring it out alone isn’t always the answer.

When a concept is not fully understood, each new topic can begin to feel harder. Students may need someone to go back, explain the concept differently, identify the specific area causing difficulty, and provide focused practice until it begins to make sense. Parents also need to know where their child is struggling so they can understand what needs attention and follow their progress over time.

  1. 1

    Identify the Exact Learning Gap

We pinpoint the specific concepts causing difficulty so support is focused where it matters most.

  2. 2

    Re-teach What Wasn’t Understood

When a concept is not fully understood, we go back and explain it differently until it clicks.

  3. 3

    Practice the Specific Skills

Targeted practice helps students strengthen the exact skills they are struggling with.

  4. 4

    Apply Concepts Independently

Our goal is understanding that transfers, so students can solve problems on their own.

  5. 5

    Give Parents Clearer Insight

Parents receive understandable evidence of where their child stands and how they are progressing.

The goal is not simply to give students more work. It is to make sure the right concepts are taught, practiced, monitored, and strengthened so they can move forward with greater confidence.

Included with every registration

Learn where your child really stands.

Every student registered for the Mathwhiz Trial Class receives the Mathwhiz NC Math Starting Point Assessment before attending the live session.

A note on the assessment. The assessment includes an “I Have Not Learned This Yet” option. Schools may teach topics in different orders, so unfamiliar material is treated as a separate exposure status, not automatically as a weakness or incorrect response.

The Mathwhiz NC Math Starting Point Assessment is an internal Mathwhiz Academy assessment and is not a North Carolina statewide assessment. It was developed from our experience teaching students over the years to help identify where a student is beginning, including strengths and areas that may require additional support.

Live online classes

From shy to “let me show you.”

Students learn live with a real teacher, see the reasoning unfold step by step on the board, and are encouraged to take part. With preparation and support, they grow the confidence to explain solutions of their own.

Group classes, individual data

Group classes shouldn’t mean every child gets the exact same support.

The Starting Point Assessment is more than a score. If the student continues with Mathwhiz, it becomes the beginning of their individual learning data.

  1. Starting Point Assessment

A clear picture of where your child begins.

  2. Class + Assignment

Live instruction followed by assignments connected directly to the concepts being taught.

  3. Instructional Milestones

Strengths, learning gaps, and areas requiring additional practice become clearer over time.

  4. EOG Preparation

Grade-level knowledge and problem-solving are strengthened progressively throughout the year.

Group instruction. Individual learning data. Personalized practice. Measurable growth.

Student data helps identify strengths, areas for reinforcement, and priorities for practice. Every child learns within a small group, with their own learning data informing where to focus next.

How NC Check-Ins fit

One more data point on the way to the EOG.

Throughout the year, North Carolina Check-Ins can provide additional information about how students are performing on selected grade-level standards. We treat that information as one more data point that can help identify where additional instruction or reinforcement may be useful as students continue building toward the EOG.

We view NC Check-Ins as an additional external data point that can help families see how students are progressing during the year as they continue working toward their end-of-year goals.

Start with where they are

Show how far they’ve come.

At the beginning, establish a starting point. Throughout the program, teach, practice, assess, and adjust. Later, use a comparable Progress Assessment to help parents see what changed.

Starting Point Assessment

  • What the child already understands
  • What needs reinforcement
  • What they have not yet learned

Comparable Progress Assessment

  • Where the child started
  • Which skills were already strong
  • Which areas improved
  • Which previously unlearned skills developed
  • What still needs reinforcement
  • How overall Mathwhiz assessment performance changed

Understandable evidence. Parents should not simply have to take our word for it. Mathwhiz should provide families understandable evidence so they can see what changed and make informed decisions about continued support.

Small-group cohorts

Maximum 15 students per cohort

Mathwhiz combines live instruction with technology that allows our team to see more than what is happening with the class as a whole. We can also identify where individual students may require additional practice, reinforcement, or support.

  • Live Interactive Whiteboard: step-by-step problem walkthroughs where students can see the reasoning unfold in real time.
  • Small-Group Accountability: every student is seen, engaged, and encouraged to participate.
  • Individual Progress Tracking: participation, assignments, and learning gaps are monitored over time.

A maximum of 15 students per cohort keeps the group small and each child’s growth visible.
